Let Go & Let God
Finding Peace in Surrender
Life is full of uncertainties, challenges, and moments that test our patience and faith. We often find ourselves holding on too tightly—trying to control outcomes, overanalyzing decisions, or carrying burdens that were never meant for us. But there’s a simple, yet profound truth that I for one find solace in: Let go and let God.
What Does It Mean to Let Go and Let God?
At its core, this is about surrendering our worries, fears, and need for control. It doesn’t mean giving up or being passive—it means trusting that God is working things out in ways we may not understand. It’s about replacing anxiety with faith, replacing control with trust, and replacing fear with peace.
Why Is Letting Go So Hard?
Letting go is difficult because we’re wired to seek security and control. We fear the unknown, and we often believe that if we just try harder, think longer, or worry more, we can influence the outcome. But this approach only leads to stress and frustration. The reality is, some things are beyond our control—illness, loss, other people’s actions, or unexpected life changes. The more we try to force things, the more exhausted and anxious we become.
How to Let Go and Let God
If you're struggling to release control, here are some practical ways to embrace this mindset:
Acknowledge What You Can’t Control
Make a list of things that are weighing on your heart. Separate what you can influence from what you can’t. Surrender the uncontrollable to God.Pray and Release
Prayer is a powerful act of surrender. Talk to God about your worries and ask for peace and guidance. Imagine physically handing over your burden to Him.Trust the Process
Just because you don’t see immediate results doesn’t mean God isn’t at work. Faith requires patience. Trust that God’s timing and plans are greater than yours.Take Action Where You Can
Letting go doesn’t mean doing nothing. It means focusing on what you can do while trusting God with the rest. If you’re worried about a job, apply for positions but don’t dwell on rejection. If you’re struggling with a relationship, have honest conversations, but don’t force an outcome.Practice Gratitude
Shifting your focus from worry to gratitude helps build trust in God’s plan. Even in difficulty, there are blessings to be found. Keeping a gratitude journal can help you see His hand in your life.Surround Yourself with Faithful Support
Being around people who trust in God’s plan can strengthen your own faith. Whether it’s a church community, a mentor, or a friend, seek those who encourage and uplift you.
The Peace That Comes with Surrender
When we truly let go and let God, we experience a deep sense of peace. The weight of trying to control everything lifts, and we can move forward with confidence, knowing we are not alone. This doesn’t mean life will be easy or that we won’t face struggles, but it does mean we can navigate them with faith rather than fear.
If you find yourself overwhelmed, take a deep breath, and remind yourself: This is not mine to carry alone. I release it to God. Trust that He sees the full picture, and rest in the assurance that He is guiding you toward something greater.
A Personal Experience
Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I simply invite Jesus to take the load. Within seconds, the weight of my overwhelm dissipates. There is an immediate relief that comes when I surrender my burdens to Him. Why not try it? You have everything to gain and nothing to lose. Jesus promises in Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." That rest is available to all who are willing to let go and trust Him fully.
Final Thought: Letting go is a daily practice. It’s not something we do once and never struggle with again. But each time we surrender, we grow stronger in faith, and we step closer to the peace that comes with trusting God fully.
